Legal officer at the European Commission, Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE)

Balázs Lengyel has a doctor’s degree in jurisprudence and works as a Legal officer at the European Commission, Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE). His task is to contribute to the health aims of DG SANTE through contributing to policy development on health, in particular in relation to the implementation of the Directive on patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare. Earlier, he was a seconded national expert at the Commission and worked on European health workforce issues including migration of health professionals and recognition of their qualification. Before the Commission, he worked as a civil servant at a compulsory health insurer for 20 years including 10 years as a head of unit and was responsible for the EU legislation on free movement of persons in particular the implementation of the regulation on coordination of social security schemes.
